Tufting
Tufting is a method of creating carpets where computers are used to direct machines for construction of particular styles, patterns, and densities by making use of synthetic fabrics.
Step 1
The fibers are initially woven into what is known as a backing material that is used for holding the fibers in proper place. A majority of the tufting machines are about twelve feet wide. The output of this process is known as the construction of loop pile.
Step 2
The second step in making a carpet through this process is to dye it. At times a carpet is dyed before the completion of the final processes and at times it may be done after their completion. If your carpets are dyed before, they typically come in a single shade devoid of any style or pattern. However, if they are dyed afterward, they are taken through either a single or multiple silk screens so that a particular style or pattern can be obtained according to a computer design.
Step 3
In this step, a layer of latex coating is applied to the primary backing of a dyed carpet, as well as, to its secondary backing. The two layers of backing are then heat sealed together. There are some makers who apply protection against stain in this particular step.
Final Step
In the final step, all the loose ends are removed and that is known as shearing. The final step also involves inspection checks to make sure that there is both accuracy and high-quality in the carpet’s digital design.
Weaving
Weaving is a way to make carpet through the use of hand looms or machine loomss. No matter, what technique is applied, a frame is used for placing the fibers vertically and then tightly pulled so that tension can be maintained when the yarn is being weaved around them. Once weaving is completed, the new fibers are then placed horizontally over the yarn. The carpets that are produced through weaving are usually of higher quality or tend to be more luxurious than carpets manufactured through tufting. Weaving often uses natural fibers like wool, silk or bamboo and is much more costly than tufted carpet.
Today, most of the carpets that are available in the market are tufted and made of artificial or synthetic fiber. Nylon and Polyester are two of the most common synthetic materials used for making carpets.
